Arby's is unveiling some new menu items that look like they're perfect for your garden variety vegetarian or vegan, but looks can be deceiving.
The "Marrot" is the first in a line of "Megetables," which Arby's executives hope will be a way of setting their fast-food restaurants apart from the competition who are attempting to lure in more customers with meat-free menu items, including Burger King's plant-based Impossible Burger and McDonald's Big Vegan TS-- the latter is reportedly only sold in Germany.
The Marrot is a creation their new executive chef, Neville Craw, according to Arby's. It's made from turkey breast and rolled into the shape of a carrot before being seasoned with salt and white pepper. Marrots are later sprinkled with carrot juice powder for color, then they're rolled in cheese cloth and cooked sous vide style before being baked.
Arby's believes plant-based meats are just a way of disguising vegetables to look like meat, which they claim is what Americans really want to eat.
