FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball earned their fourth straight home win of the season with a 17 point win over UC Merced on Thursday night in the Save Mart Center.
Danae Powell earned her first career start as a Bulldog. The freshman guard collected seven points, five assists, one rebound, one 3PFGM. Mia Jacobs sees double-double number seven after 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jacobs led the team in scoring and rebounding.
How it happened
UC Merced looked to be holding their own at the start of the night, to the basket first was a three from Nagra. Bulldogs couldn't get anything larger than a 4-0 run before the Bobcats got their shots in. With their closest reach to the lead, the Bobcats trailed by three after the first ten.
An 8-0 run gets the Bulldogs in a good position for their first double-figure lead of the night. Holly Griffiths gets the scoring rolling with a jumper outside the paint. Mariah Elohim was quick to lock in a shot from downtown and Powell backed it up with another deep three before the Bobcats got their next shot off. Laney Amundsen made her money shot from the arc, on her first points of the night.
Fresno State held an eleven point lead over UC Merced going into the half. 'Dogs shot 41% from the field (16-of-39), 33% from the three (6-of-18) with no trips to the charity line.
A story as old as time, Fresno State opened the second half off a three-point by none other than Mia Jacobs. Bobcats were able to secure six points of their own before the 'Dogs ran on their longest scoring run of the night. A mighty 12-0 run made the Bulldogs first crack at a twenty point lead. Fox let it rip first with a layup, Konstantinidou and Powell matched. Letting the three's loose were Elohim and Jacobs, good for two. Alannah Chatfield is there when you need a three, the junior guard also grabbed her first points of the night, handing Fresno their biggest lead of the night, 79-54.
