Free agent wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster is reportedly signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Monday (August 26).

Smith-Schuster, 27, who was recently cut by the New England Patriots, spent the 2022 season with the Chiefs, recording a team-best seven receptions, as well as 53 yards during Kansas City's Super Bowl LVII win against the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as 78 receptions for 933 yards and three touchdowns during the regular 2022 season, ranking second behind All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce in yards and catches.

"Reunion: Veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is signing with the #Chiefs, per source," Pelissero wrote on his X account.

Smith-Schuster signed a three-year contract with the Patriots last offseason, but struggled to find consistency while battling injuries. The former Pro Bowler recorded 29 receptions for 260 yards in 11 games before being released by New England earlier this month.

Smith-Schuster's reported deal with the Chiefs is expected to be a minimum-level given the dead money created by his release from the Patriots, NFL.com's Kevin Patra reports. Kansas City needed depth at the wide receiver position after Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown, who was acquired during the offseason, suffered a shoulder injury during the team's first preseason game.

The Chiefs have used Rashee Rice, rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson as first-team wide receiver options during preseason games, though Rice's legal situation has not yet been resolved and could result in missing time. The Chiefs are coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories and three in the last five years after defeating the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in Super Bowl LVIII in February.
