Cops Respond To Noise Complaint, End Up Playing Video Games

A group of friends were playing the recently released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch and got a little too rowdy, causing their neighbors to call the police to report a noise complaint. When the officers arrived at the St. Paul, Minnesota apartment, they determined that the group of guys were not making excessive noise, and decided to join in on their fun.

“I’m like, ‘Y’all wanna play Smash?!’ And two of them literally raised their hand and walked up," Williams told Yahoo! Lifestyle. "They’re like, ‘How do you jump?’ They were acting; one of them was playing Pikachu!”

Jovante M. Williams detailed the encounter in a viral Facebook post

“We got our homies here, we got our other homies here... Yo man, we all about to play some smash bros... right there, bam," he said as he panned his phone over to capture the officers playing the game.

Williams explained that he was worried when the cops first showed up to their apartment.

“It was concerning. You see so many videos of terrible results… I’m not trying to end up in jail or hurt, or have my friends harmed, or to start a commotion. But you know what? I heard the police asking ‘What Smash Brothers?’ Instead of something negative… it was something wholesome.”

Officer Isaac Palmer told the Twin Cities Pioneer Press that the group was not charged over the incident.

“Not every call is chaos,” said Palmer. “Some days we can just sit and chit-chat with people. When it’s not crazy, you can take the time to talk.”
