Diamond 'Dogs add Price & Karraker to coaching staff

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State baseball interim head coach Ryan Overland has added Ritchie Price as an assistant coach and Jack Karraker as a volunteer assistant coach to the coaching staff.

Arriving in Fresno after 11 seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater Kansas, Price coached the Jayhawks' hitters and infielders.

Helping KU finish in the top half of the Big 12 six times in team fielding percentage, Price coached and developed 10 infielders and 16 hitters who were selected in the MLB Draft.

In addition, Price recruited and coached a pair of Big 12 Newcomers of the Year and spent the last two seasons coaching and developing projected 2023 first-round pick Maui Ahuna.

Before his time in Lawrence, Price was the head coach at South Dakota State from 2009 to 2011 where he compiled a 102-71 record (.590) helping the Jackrabbits win the 2010 Summit League Championship on his way to earning Summit League Coach of the Year honors.

Price helped SDSU advance to the Summit League Conference championship game in all three seasons falling to nationally ranked Oral Roberts each time. In his time in Brookings, Price coached three MLB players in Blake Treinen (Nationals, Athletics, Dodgers), Caleb Thielbar (Twins) and Layne Somsen (Reds).

Price got his coaching career started at SDSU in 2008 after his playing career ended in 2007. An 18th round selection of the New York Mets in 2006, Price played for the Brooklyn Cyclones and Kingsport Mets in the minors after wrapping up his four-year career at Kansas.

A four-year letter winner for the Jayhawks from 2003 to 2006, Price started 248 consecutive games in college and set 24 program records, including hits, at-bats, games played and runs scored. In addition, he finished top 10 all-time in NCAA history in assists.

Helping Kansas to the 2006 Big 12 tournament championship, Price earned the Jayhawk Excellence Award as the top student-athlete in the department.

Price is a 2002 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School winning the county batting title as a senior and helped the Tigers to the 2000 CIF Division IV Southern Section championship at Dodger Stadium.

Karraker enters his first season as the Diamond 'Dogs volunteer assistant coach in 2023.

A 2016 graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in sociology, Karraker was a three-year member of the Ducks from 2014-16 as a pitcher.

Appearing in 30 games, Karraker made six career starts and ended his Oregon career with a 2.63 ERA.

Prior to his time in Eugene, Karraker played infield at Fresno City College for a pair of seasons in 2012 and 2013 earning a pair of All-Central Valley Conference honors and graduated from Buchanan High School in Clovis in 2010.

After his career at Oregon, Jack played for the Texas Airhogs of the American Association league and posted a 1.93 ERA in 14 outings for Texas.

Prior to coaching at Fresno State, Jack coached locally at Bullard High School for coach Tom Donald and helped the Knights to back to back CMAC Championships in 2021 and 2022 helping coach the pitchers to a team era of 2.92 and a .995 WHIP for the 2022 season.
