Cash Rains Down On New Jersey Highway During Morning Rush Hour

Commuters in New Jersey jumped out of their cars during rush hour on Thursday (December 13) morning after cash started flying across the highway. There were multiple accidents as cars attempted to avoid the people who were trying to collect as much money as they could.

The cash had come from a Brinks armored vehicle after the rear door popped open.

Betsy Richards, who was a passenger on an NJ Transit bus, told the North Jersey Record that she saw a man in a Brinks uniform dodging cars across three lanes of traffic as he tried to pick up the money. She said there were $1, $5 and even $100 bills strewn across the road.

"People were saying he's definitely going to get fired," she said. "It's Christmas for some and the loss of a job for another."

Police said they are investigating the incident and are looking for videos to help identify the people who grabbed the cash and caused the car accidents.

A video was posted on Twitter that showed the Brinks worker collecting the cash while trying not to get hit by cars and trucks. Later in the video, people can be seen stopping on the highway so they could get out and grab some of the money. A photo captured people collecting money in between cars, which were stopped due to the accidents.
