Chocolate River Flows Down German Street After Factory Accident

Willy Wonka, eat your heart out.

A street in Westönnen, Germany was the scene of a delicious accident this week after a literal ton of milk chocolate spilled out of a storage tank at the DreiMeister Chocolate Factory and flooded the nearby street where it quickly hardened.

"About a ton of chocolate ran out into the yard and from there onto the street, " a spokesman for the Werl fire brigade said of the incident. "A ten-square-meter choco-pancake formed."

The company blamed a "small technical defect" for the accidental spill of milk chocolate deliciousness.

Firefighters worked for hours to remove the "choco-pancake" using "shovels and muscle power" to pry the sweet treat off the roads. Hot water and torches were also used to remove the remaining bits of chocolate from cracks and holes.

Fortunately for all you chocolate lovers out there, the factory boss, Markus Luckey told German newspaper Soester Anzeiger that the factory didn't suffer any damage and is scheduled to be back up and running in time for Christmas. Luckey added that if the accident had happened closer to the Christmas holiday, "it would have been a catastrophe."

Around 25 firefighters were on hand to help clean up the chocolate dipped road, the newspaper said.

That's not the first time a road has been repaved by chocolate. In May, a tractor-trailer in Poland, overturned on a highway earlier this year, spilling some 12 tons of liquid chocolate.
