NBA Rookie Down to His Last $3.71 as He Awaits First NBA Paycheck

NBA Rookie Down to His Last $3.71 as He Awaits First NBA Paycheck

One thing we often overlook about NBA rookies is that, with the exception of those who've previously played pro ball overseas, most are still just poor college kids until the NBA season is underway.

Former Villanova star Donte DiVincenzo, 21, didn't have a lot of time between class, basketball practice and being the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's most outstanding player in 2018 to get a part-time job.

During some recent downtime in Las Vegas, where NBA Summer League is taking place, DiVincenzo shared via teammate DJ Wilson's Instagram story the realities of his comically light bank account. The poor (and we do mean poor) rook has only $3.71 combined in his checking and savings accounts.

That's just enough to buy him a bottle of water to cool down during the 100-plus-degree heat in Las Vegas this month. But can you even withdraw $3.71?

And while DiVincenzo's future looks bright after being drafted 17th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in last month's NBA draft, he's still going to need some help until his first NBA check gets deposited on November 15th.

Donte has yet to officially sign his rookie contract with the Bucks. When he does, he'll be guaranteed at least $5.4 million over the next two years.

You probably shouldn't worry too much about Donte, though. Between his team, his agent and the many super-rich friends he's making in the NBA, he'll be well taken care of until that first check clears this fall.
